Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) requires strength, power, flexibility, agility, courage, and a combination of technical precision and artistic creativity. The competitive program consists of vault, uneven bars, beam, and floor. Gymnasts compete in each of these events to accumulate an all-around score.

In addition to technical skills, gymnastics training also offers valuable skills applicable to all other aspects of life. Discipline, confidence, dedication, respect, leadership, and teamwork are just some of the life skills gymnasts develop throughout their gymnastics careers at BGC.

BGC runs Developmental and Pre-Competitive programs leading to participation in all levels of the Ontario Competitive Programs – Xcel, Provincial and National. We strive for excellence across all levels in which BGC gymnasts participate.

Please note that all WAG programs require an annual commitment from families with the potential for training up to 25 hours per week at both our Maple gym (south) and/or our North gym. Training schedules run 7 days a week and competitions take place throughout the year.

For more information or to inquire about our annual tryouts held in the spring of each year, please contact clubadmin@bgcgym.com or Kathy Hubbard, Head Coach khubbard@bgcgym.com

Ontario Developmental Program (ODP)

The Pre-Competitive program is for young girls with an aptitude for gymnastics between the ages of 5 to 9. It prepares them physically, technically, and mentally to succeed in the sport. Our goal is to provide a positive introduction to competing while achieving each gymnasts’ maximum potential.

The Xcel/ Provincial Program is for girls who have met the requirements to compete in the Ontario Competitive Program in either the Xcel stream (Bronze, Silver, Gold) or the Provincial stream (Levels 3-10) as determined by Gymnastics Ontario. All programs are focused on the development of flexibility, strength, speed, endurance, basic skills and form, as well as building a solid technical foundation with regards to routines on each of the 4 component apparatuses. Our goal is to develop each athlete to their fullest potential. This program will develop gymnasts for possible entry into the National Program.

It is the pathway that will lead a gymnast towards the pursuit of excellence and success at the highest international level, as well as possible scholarships. The rules, skill requirements, and commitments required of the athlete, parents, and coaches are very challenging.
