BGC Artistic Gymnastics
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics is the most recognized of the seven gymnastics disciplines and one of the most popular sports at the Olympic Games. It is comprised of four events; Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor. Gymnasts compete on each of these events to accumulate an All Around score.
Artistic gymnastics is a challenging sport which requires strength, flexibility, power, agility and courage. It is both athletic and artistic and can appear effortless when performed by an accomplished gymnast. A competitive gymnast must be dedicated and determined in order to be successful. Many hours of training are required to master the higher levels of Artistic Gymnastics.
The Burlington Gymnastics Club (BGC) runs Developmental and Pre Competitive programs leading to participation in all levels of the Ontario Competitive Programs both Provincial and National. The BGC has a long history of excellence and has produced many Provincial and National Champions. We are proud of the athletes we place consistently on Ontario Teams going to Ontario Tour and Eastern Canadian and Canadian Championships. Our National program has yielded gymnasts who have earned full athletic scholarships at American Universities and have gone on to compete in the NCAA. We strive for excellence across all the levels in which we participate.
Each Spring recreational gymnasts are invited to audition for positions in the Artistic Competitive Program. Children who show a high aptitude for the sport are offered a spot in a training group appropriate to their age and skills. Training hours range from 6 to 26 hours each week depending on age, level and program. A high level of commitment is required of the gymnast and of her family. Each family is required to assist in supporting club events and operation through mandatory participation hours and fundraising.
